The honest version of the list, including the parts that need something installed and the parts that are positioned rather than matched.

Video containers

MOV · MP4 · M4V · MXF · R3D · BRAW · ARRIRAW · CRM

Two caveats that belong on the list rather than in a support email. MXF needs Apple Pro Video Formats installed on the Mac. RAW containers — R3D, BRAW, ARRIRAW and CRM — ingest and are placed on the timeline, but their audio requires a vendor codec, so those clips are positioned by timing rather than matched on sound.

Devices it recognises

Track names come from the files themselves — BWF and iXML chunks in WAV, Sony's metadata both embedded and as sidecar XML, QuickTime maker and model atoms, Fujifilm's own tag, plus filename and codec fingerprints.

In practice that covers Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Blackmagic cameras, DJI microphones and TASCAM or Zoom recorders, and names the tracks after the device rather than after the folder.

FCP7 XML (.xml) — Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and other editors that read the format;
FCPXML (.fcpxml) — Final Cut Pro.

What is not on the list

If a format is not named above, assume it is not supported. The list is what has been tested against real footage, not what the underlying frameworks might happen to open.
